    Training Specialist - SCSTC OS "A" School Technical Instructor

    Operations Specialists (OS) advise on shipboard warfare operations and navigation; maintain Combat Information Center (CIC)/Combat Direction Center (CDC) displays and provide strategic plotting for warfare areas, weapons control and navigation; operate surveillance radars, identification equipment, communications equipment, and associated Command and Control equipment; interpret and evaluate radar presentations and tactical situations and make recommendations to senior leadership; apply current procedures and doctrine to CIC/CDC operations as specified by Joint/Allied/U.S. Navy publications and instructions; and display and disseminate tactical information during Surface Warfare (SUW), Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), Undersea Warfare (USW), Amphibious Warfare (AMW), Mine Warfare (MIW), Littoral Warfare (LW), Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS), and Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.

    • Identify basic watch standing, identify merchant and military ships
    • Identify radar, compass, and NAVTEX equipment, demonstrate use of a radio telephone
    • Compute bearing formulas, define rules of the road for ship navigation
    • Identify aids to navigation (ATON), identify day shapes and lights at night
    • Plot current position on a nautical chart, prepare the plot of a ship's intended movement
    • Apply set and drift calculations, operate GPS equipment
    • Identify and compute compass error, apply rules of the road to plotting
    • Interpret buoy types, recall rules of the road for ship meeting and crossing
    • Maintain ship logs, recall inland and international rules of the road
    • Utilize traffic separation schemes, identify charts and symbols
    • Identify line of demarcation, identify Voyage Management System (VMS)

    Required Qualifications:

    • Three Years' Instructor Experience
    • NEC 9502/805A

    Preferred Experience:

    • Master Training Specialist
    • NAVEDTRA 131/132 curriculum development

    Security clearance level: Secret US citizenship required
