    Paddock Judge

    Exciting opportunity to work at Ocean Downs Casino Racetrack only 10 minutes from the beaches and boardwalk of Ocean City, MD! Work with an awesome team while ensuring a good time for our guests. This is a seasonal part-time role at our racetrack! If you possess the desire to work for a great company, then we would love to have you!

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

    • Creates and ensures a fun-filled, entertaining and exciting environment where the flawless delivery and execution of service excellence is paramount.
    • Works under the direction of the Presiding Judge.
    • Works with the Identifier to ensure all horses are correctly scheduled.
    • Supervises all paddock gate personnel, verifying that only authorized personnel are in the paddock area.
    • Verifies that all horses have the proper equipment, head numbers and saddle pads.
    • Directs activities of the paddock blacksmith.
    • Is responsible for adhering to the race schedule.
    • Works closely with the Presiding Judge relating to any changes or delays that could affect the racing program.
    • Is responsible to report any cruelty to horses observed immediately to the Presiding Judge.
    • Complies with Maryland Racing Commission Regulations.
    • Promotes outstanding customer relations.
    • Promotes honesty and trust amongst the team.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills And Abilities:

    • Must be in good standing with the United States Trotting Association.
    • Must have knowledge of all the rules and regulations set forth by the United States Trotting Association.
    • Must possess excellent written and verbal skills.
    • Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the necessary functions of this position.
    • Ability to consistently comprehend, retain and execute written, verbal and demonstrated directions, explanations and guidance.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and effectively communicate with guests, co-workers and management.

    Education And Experience:

    • Previous work in horseracing operations preferred

    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

    • Must be able to stand / walk and/or sit for extended periods of time without difficulty.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on business needs which includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
    • Must be able to obtain and keep a License issued by the Maryland Racing Commission required of all Racing Services employees.
