Overview The main purpose of this position is to process open records requests for police reports, records, photos, video and audio recordings submitted by the public. Advise the public of their rights in regards to open records, This position processes subpoenas and acts on behalf of the Custodian of Records for the Police Department.
Responsibilities • Receive open records requests from the public and determine whether information can be released or if a ruling from the Attorney General's office is needed
• Process subpoenas
• Train new employee's to review files and check for accuracy
• Review files and create estimates for requests of dash cam videos
• These files require initial payment before the request is processed
• Review photos and 911 audio calls and videos for possible redactions according to Texas rules
• Make redactions and provide discs for requesters
• Answer calls from the general public requesting information on open records requests and the status of such requests
• Review, redact, and produce all photos, video, and dash cam videos on discs to requesters
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Qualifications • Associates Degree (AA/AS); or 2-year technical certificate
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications • TCIC/NCIC within six (6) months of hire
• Driving Safety Course within six (6) months of hire
• Notary within six (6) months of hire
• Public Information Act Training
Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
