The Avel eCare Emergency Services Line requires all paramedics to practice at a competent level of paramedic care and demonstrate a competent and professional level of behavior in their role as a paramedic. The South Dakota Department of Health ALS scope and standards of practice are exemplified within the position description. The paramedic is responsible for utilizing the paramedic process to provide care for the patient. They assume responsibility and accountability for their individual actions and outcomes of patient care delivered on his/her shift.Essential FunctionsPrimary clinician for EMS encounters. Serves in crisis role for hospital emergency encounters.Collects patient health data.Analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses/problem focus.Identifies expected outcomes/goals individualized to the patient.Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care.Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes.Systemically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.Evaluates his/her own paramedic practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others.Determines decisions and actions on behalf of clients in a manner consistent with the NREMT Code of Conduct.Collaborates with the patient, significant others and health care providers in providing patient care.Utilizes research/evidence-based findings in practice if appropriate.Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.Integrates the use of health care technology and/or information management systems into the provision of nursing care.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSThe individual must be able to work the hours specified above. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the essential functions.
