Reports to: Executive DirectorPosition SummaryThe Kentucky Bar Association (KBA) is seeking a highly experienced and strategic legal professional to serve as its next Chief Bar Counsel. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Office of Bar Counsel, including attorney discipline, unauthorized practice of law investigations, and support of the Inquiry Commission pursuant to the Rules of the Supreme Court of Kentucky.The Chief Bar Counsel serves as a key member of KBA leadership and works collaboratively across departments to uphold the integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards of the legal profession throughout the Commonwealth.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the Office of Bar Counsel, including supervision of Deputy Bar Counsel and support staffOversee attorney disciplinary investigations and prosecution of disciplinary mattersProvide staff support and guidance to the Inquiry CommissionEnsure timely and professional handling of complaints, investigations, and case managementMonitor workload distribution and maintain operational efficiency within the departmentCollaborate with KBA departments including CLE, KYLAP, Accounting/Membership, Communications, and AdministrationPrepare reports and updates for the Board of GovernorsAttend and participate in committee meetings, CLE programs, and professional responsibility initiativesOversee Clients' Security Fund processes and reinstatement/restoration mattersMaintain knowledge of legal ethics, attorney discipline trends, and professional responsibility law nationwideQualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law schoolLicensed and in good standing to practice law in KentuckySignificant experience in legal ethics, attorney discipline, litigation, investigations, or regulatory lawProven leadership and management experience, including supervising attorneys and professional staffStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage complex legal matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgmentDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively with legal professionals, governing bodies, and organizational leadershipPreferred QualificationsExperience working with bar associations, disciplinary agencies, courts, or regulatory organizationsFamiliarity with the Kentucky Supreme Court Rules and disciplinary proceduresPublic speaking and CLE presentation experiencePosition DetailsThe Chief Bar Counsel serves at the pleasure of the KBA Board of Governors and reports directly to the Executive Director.Why Join KBA?This is an opportunity to play a meaningful leadership role in protecting the integrity of the legal profession in Kentucky while helping shape ethical standards, accountability, and professionalism across the Commonwealth.Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per yearBenefits:401(k)Dental insuranceHealth insurancePaid time offVision insuranceWork Location: In personTo apply for this job, visit:
