Transports unmonitored patients to inpatient departments and stables monitored patients to PCU/med-tele, or accompanies registered nurse to transport patients to specialty units. Assists physician or registered nurse with procedures and exams, including setup and cleanup for sutures, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, and application of orthopedic splints and casting. Performs hourly rounding on patients to keep them informed, ensures they have call bells, pillows, blankets as needed, and that caregiver names are on the boards. Observes and documents the condition of infusion sites and removes IV lines as directed by registered nurse. Performs venipuncture for testing and inserts peripheral venous access (IV) and intraosseous (IO), with or without the use of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), hangs IV fluid without medication, and maintains prescribed IV flow rates. Initiates oxygen therapy as directed by registered nurse or physician. Initiates cardiac monitoring, detects dysrhythmias, and notifies the assigned nurse or charge nurse of abnormalities. Attaches and completes 12 lead EKG tests before providing the strip to the physician on duty. Performs accurate order entry and provides patient care appropriate to age, mobility, acuity, and culture. Champions customer service by keeping patients informed, providing updates, apologizing for waits, demonstrating caring and compassion, advocating for pain management, and ensuring patients can get help at any time. Follows Center for Disease Control isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment, performs hand washing according to policy, and enforces safety regulations.
