    State Government Affairs Lead (Northeast Region)Global Affairs - New York City and Washington, DCAbout the TeamOpenAI's mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. Our Global Affairs team builds authentic, collaborative relationships with public officials and the policymaking community to inform and support our shared work, advancing regulation, industry standards, and safe, beneficial development of AI tools.About the RoleAs a State Government Affairs Lead, Northeast Region , you will lead OpenAI's engagement with state and local governments across the Northeast, including New York, Pennsylvania, and other key states.Reporting to the Head of U.S. State Policy and Partnerships, you will develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, agency leaders, local government representatives, and other key stakeholders across your assigned states. You will serve as a primary representative of OpenAI's policy interests in the Northeast and help shape regional strategies that advance OpenAI's broader policy goals and mission.Day-to-day work may include shaping strategic initiatives and policy documents, preparing OpenAI leaders for engagements with government officials, and representing OpenAI in private and public forums across the region.You will also collaborate with civil society and industry partners, advise internal teams on state and local-level opportunities, risks, and policy developments, and execute thoughtful engagement strategies across the Northeast.This role requires frequent travel throughout the Northeast region and relocation assistance is offered to new employees.What You'll DoBuild and maintain relationships with state and local government officials and agencies within the Northeast region.Develop and execute strategic advocacy, regulatory engagement, stakeholder coordination, and policy development initiatives.Represent OpenAI in private and public forums, and prepare leaders for engagements with government officials.Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to identify and advise on state and local-level opportunities, risks, and policy developments.Travel frequently throughout the Northeast region to meet stakeholders and participate in events.QualificationsSignificant experience in state and local government advocacy.Proven ability to build coalitions and manage complex campaigns across multiple stakeholders.Strong understanding of AI-related legislative and regulatory issues and processes.Experience advocating at the state government level and managing consultants at the state level.Experience in technology policy and strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Ability to execute in fast, flexible environments through rapid cycles of analysis, decision, and action.Strong judgment, integrity, and genuine care for the impact of technology on society.Legal and Equal OpportunityWe are an equal opportunity employer, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or other applicable legally protected characteristics.Background checks for applicants will be administered in accordance with applicable law.
