    BE THE SOLUTION!

Do you enjoy working in an atmosphere of collegiality with fellow civic-minded people? Looking to learn more about local government and making a difference in the community? Looking to build lasting relationships while making Nevada County a better place?Looking for varied and interesting work that you can sink your teeth into?

Then apply online to the Nevada County Civil Grand Jury! Applications are accepted year-round.

The Civil Grand Jury is looking for citizens to investigate county agencies, special districts, public safety departments, schools, and other entities that receive public money. Often called "California's Democracy Watchdog," the Civil Grand Jury investigates community concerns on how government money is spent, or how an agency's policies and procedures may fall short of serving the public efficiently. The jury selects the issues to investigate based on citizen-initiated complaints and juror suggestions. At the end of the year, the jury publishes reports outlining the investigation results and distributes them to the subjects and local media.

No special training, education or experience is required--the Jury is meant to be a cross section of the Nevada County population. There is a stipend for each meeting you attend, plus mileage is paid at the federal rate. Meetings are held at the county offices (Rood Center) in Nevada City. The time commitment starts around 10 hours per month for meetings. Each meeting is 2 hours and meets weekly on Wednesday and Thursday. The full jury meets the first and third Tuesday each month. A laptop is provided for communication, research, and document writing. Training is provided on how to be an informed, effective juror and report writing.

Local involvement in community affairs has a direct impact and is needed now more than ever! Be part of the solution and consider serving on Nevada County's Civil Grand Jury.
