    Position Summary

    Employee enforces City ordinances pertaining to health, zoning, business licensing, and other ordinances as designated by the City, coordinating with neighborhood groups, law enforcement agencies, and other City departments to identify problems and address issues.

    Starting Pay: $22.14 per hour; additional pay may be provided depending on experience

    Schedule: Full time,4 x 10-hour shifts per week; Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work to accomplish assigned tasks.

    FLSA Status: Non-exempt

    Benefits : Full benefits; health, dental, and life insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays, vision reimbursement plan, parental leave

    Retirement: Utah Retirement Systems, pension and/or 401(k)

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Patrol neighborhoods identifying and reacting to violations of health, zoning, business licensing, general city ordinances and other applicable ordinances as assigned.
    • Respond to calls for the service in response to resident complaints or other agency referrals.
    • Represent the City in prosecuting cases in Administrative Court.
    • Provide information to residents through handouts, presentations, one-on-one conversations, neighborhood watch meetings, and other gatherings of concerned residents.
    • Maintain accurate records and proper documentation using appropriate hardware and software.
    • Operate City vehicles safely.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    Requirements
    • Ability to work without close supervision, to exercise initiative and sound judgment in problem solving and decision making.
    • Ability to react resourcefully and responsibly under varying pressure conditions; ability to communicate effectively with others.
    • Ability to enforce the law while demonstrating tact and good judgment.
    • Ability to work with various computer programs related to case tracking and documentation.
    • Knowledge of relevant City ordinances which pertain to enforcement and knowledge of procedures regarding code enforcement.
    Education and/or Experience
    • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
    Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
    • Must possess a valid State of Utah Driver's License, or have the ability to obtain one
    • Have the ability to safely drive a motor vehicle
    Language Skills
    • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
    Physical Demands
    • Light physical effort requiring the ability to move around easily in and out of a vehicle multiple times on a daily basis.
    Work Environment
    • Typical office setting includes air conditioning, ultraviolet lighting, computer use and other office equipment.
    • Intermittent exposure to heat, cold, dust, moisture and high noise levels.
    • Frequent exposure to stress due to human behavior and multiple tasks and assignments.
    • Travel both inside and outside of West Valley City.
    • Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work to accomplish assigned tasks.
