System Safety Engineer Sr

You will be the Senior System Safety Engineer (SSE) for the Missiles & Fire Control (MFC) Advanced Programs team. Our team safeguards every product we deliver to customers, ensuring that the warfighter is protected through rigorous safety engineering and compliance.ResponsibilitiesOwn the development, execution, and continual improvement of system safety programs across multiple missile and fire control programs.Work independently and partner with engineers, software developers, trainers, and customers to embed safety into every design decision.Develop hazard analyses, safety assessments, and risk-based mitigation strategies for hardware, software, training, and procedures.Define and apply safety criteria, ensuring they are reflected in system architecture, specifications, and test plans.Prepare clear technical presentations, reports, and safety documentation for internal stakeholders and customers.Lead System Safety Working Group meetings, drive consensus, and track action items.Review design changes, configuration updates, and specification revisions for potential safety impacts and recommend corrective actions.Participate in accident/incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement lessons learned across the program line.Maintain compliance with government and industry safety standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882, ARP-4761) and support safety certifications as needed.QualificationsBasic QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited college in an engineering discipline.Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program in accordance with MIL-STD-882.Experience developing and evaluating system safety requirements.Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program per AOP-52 and DoD guidelines.Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses.Strong written and oral communication skills.Ability to make formal presentations to large groups.Team-oriented interaction with engineers, suppliers, program managers, and customers.Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.Desired SkillsExperience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards.Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering.Familiarity with missile and launcher systems.Current Secret clearance with a 6-year background check.Model-based engineering knowledge.Experience with DOORS requirements application.Self-starter capable of performing tasks with little direction.Effective analytical problem-solving skills and high degree of accuracy detail orientation.Ability to learn and work with system safety-specific software tools.Benefits & Work ConditionsFlexible work schedules with a 4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week.
