    Code Enforcement Officer

    The City of Newnan is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to join a collaborative team that works together with our citizens to build a healthy community through connection and care. Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the Code Enforcement Officer enforces city codes and ordinances, investigates complaints and violations, issues warnings and citations and educates the public regarding code compliance.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Responds to complaints of potential code violations related to signing, building occupancy, nuisances, housing conditions, land use, zoning, noise, dumping, polluting, or other code related matters.
    • Conducts field investigations of potential violations; gathers evidence; questions or interrogates complainants, witnesses and suspects; compares facts to code requirements; makes findings; and issues oral warnings, correction notices, and citations as appropriate; attends court proceedings as needed.
    • Meets with owners, tenants, contractors, developers, businesses, etc. to review and explain code requirements and violations or potential violations; secures code compliance.
    • Drafts and distributes a variety of correspondence, memoranda, notices, and reports relating to code enforcement issues and actions; enters payroll time sheets.
    • Makes determinations regarding the repair or demolition of buildings; presents information to Council for consideration; oversees the repair or demolition of structures as directed.
    • Provides information to persons who request information or assistance in code enforcement related matters.
    • Maintains a variety of logs and records related to inspection and enforcement activities; prepares recommendations for amendments and additions to codes or regulations that relate to the position.
    • Coordinates efforts with City departments and assists department staff as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Driver's License
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Two (2) years experience in code enforcement, building inspection, investigations, plan review or related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, GACE-Georgia Association of Code Enforcement Certification within 3 years of employment or equivalent IPMC Certification through ICC.
    • Ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight
    • Exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, heights, confined spaces, or rude/irate customers

    Background check, Motor vehicle history, and pre-employment drug screen with a blood alcohol test must be successfully completed.

    Pay based on experience and position qualifications.
