Performs technical work enforcing the Zoning and Nuisance ordinances and related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Planning Director.
The following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project.
Thorough knowledge of the zoning ordinances, minimum housing, nuisance and related codes; general knowledge of legal procedures related to the enforcement of ordinances and codes; ability to prepare factual reports and present same to appropriate board or commission; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to enforce ordinances and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, public officials, associates and the general public. High school diploma or GED and 1 to 2 years' experience in code enforcement. Or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills to complete the essential functions and job responsibilities of this position. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
This position's physical requirements involve sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and/or walking. Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a loud noisy location.
