Loss Control Consultant (Captive)
The Loss Control Consultant is responsible for supporting Captive client safety initiatives through field assessments, data collection, and basic risk evaluations under supervision. They provide a direct impact in attracting and retaining clients by delivering a total cost of risk approach.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Tasks:
- Analyze historical loss information to identify loss leaders and develop appropriate loss control service strategies
- Provide consulting services to Higginbotham Captive clients to assist with regulatory compliance (OSHA, D.O.T., etc.), theft prevention and employee/customer safety
- Conduct safety assessments focusing on the evaluation of site conditions, employee work practices, industry standards and regulatory compliance
- Prepare professional, written reports summarizing observations and discussions from site visits such as Safety Summary Report & Risk Control Reports
- Receive and review new information; manage notification process and upload information into Monday.com as required
- Evaluate and/ or develop client specific written safety and risk management policies
- Evaluate safety training options for Captive clients on a variety of risk management and loss control topics
- Manage budget for client that pertains to their Group Captive loss control allotment for items such as equipment, training, and various other tools
- Assist with development of action plans and safety programs, in conjunction with the insured, to control losses, improve safety and utilize their respective allocations.
- Accompany Clients to Captive Risk Control workshops as assigned
- Assist with other duties or special projects as assigned by the Loss Control Director.
Day-to-day responsibilities/tasks pertinent to Loss Control may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the promotion of occupational health, compliance and safety within organizations as directed by the Loss Control Director
- Develop safer, healthier, and more efficient and productive ways of working and/or managing clients.
- Assist clients in the creation, implementation and evaluation of programs and training designed to limit risk to workers and save employers money, through identifying potential hazards in systems, equipment, products, facilities, people or processes.
- Assess loss potential for risks for clients and provide possible solutions to combat.
- Facilitate any outside consultant use for clients as directed by the Loss Control Director
- Meet with clients and prospective clients to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Communicate with clients to report on the status of programs and training. Prepare reports, observations, analysis, policies, procedures and recommendations for the control and correction of hazards and risks.
- Observe business operations and management practices to determine safety issues and hazards affecting insurance premiums and losses.
- Provide education of the OSHA/DOT/MSHA/PHMSA industry process and updates to agency and client personnel.
- Analyzes CAB reports, history of accidents and claims against insured and inspects scenes of accidents to determine causes and to develop accident prevention programs.
- Prepare written report of findings and recommendations for correction of unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
- Assist with development of action plans and safety programs, in conjunction with the insured, to control losses, improve safety and utilize their respective allocations.
- Confer with employees of insured, provides informational materials, and conducts training to induce compliance with safety standards, codes, and regulations.
- Conduct informational meetings among various educational, civic, and industrial groups to promote general safety concepts.
- Prepare and provide pulpstream and group captives purchasing programs tracking information.
- Develop and implement innovative processes to improve customer satisfaction and client success.
- Participate in captive workshops and loss control visits with clients as directed.

- Continually search for process improvements and/or enhancements to workflow; make recommendations for change where appropriate.
- Respond to client and company requests for action and information on any loss control-related matter.
- Assist with scheduling, coordination and tracking of deliverables with captive clients' resources.

Experience and Education:
- 3+ years of experience in occupational safety, risk management or insurance loss control related role
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Possess a working knowledge of exposures, controls and regulatory issues within construction, manufacturing, transportation, retail, healthcare, etc.
- Experience servicing multi-lines of commercial insurance coverage, including workers' compensation, auto, property, general liability, etc. is preferred
- Strong understanding of OSHA, DOT and other regulatory processes, programs and laws
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to prepare and perform training, programs and policies related to loss control
- Ability to identify and recommend corrective actions
Licensing and Credentials:
- Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and proof of auto liability insurance required
- Industry certifications preferred (CSP, OSHA Trainer, etc.)
Systems:
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Proficient with Monday.com preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
- Repeated use of sight to read documents and computer screens
- Repeated use of hearing and speech to communicate on telephone and in person
- Repetitive hand movements, such as keyboarding, writing, 10-key
- Walking, bending, sitting, reaching and stretching in all directions
- High frequency of driving/travel requirements to client offices or sites.
