HEAD GATE KEEPER (SEASONAL)DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND CEMETERYCITY OF WORCESTERThe City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for Head Gate Keepers for the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cemetery. Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Coordinator, the position is responsible for the daily operations of the facility, supervision of Gate Keepers, and monitoring guest activities of spray parks, playgrounds, and pool facilities. The position duties involve general tasks within the City of Worcester Parks system such as pool and boat house attendant, trash cleanup, distribution of meals with the summer food program, assisting with summer special events within the City of Worcester and/or assigned to a site for the duration of the summer. This is a seasonal position, with an approximate end date of September1,2026.Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:Maintain daily attendance records and welcome guest to facilityAssist with custodial work, cleaning equipment, and trash removalMaintain staff rotations and breaksAssist with weekly staff schedulesAssist in staff evaluationsComplete daily recording keepingInspect facility areas and report any problems to the maintenance or to Direct SupervisorComplete incident/accident forms to be submitted to Direct SupervisorOpen and close facility dailyREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to address issues promptly, advise management of problems or concerns, violations, and areas for improvement related to policies and proceduresAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other personnel and the publicAbility to enforce facility rules and regulations firmly, respectfully, and impartiallyAbility to perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertionAbility to work in a variety of weather conditionsAbility to stay organizedAbility to operate canoes, paddleboats, and kayaksAbility to lift up to 40 pounds to a height of 40 inchesProven ability to maintain a safe environment for other and adherence to protocols and standardsProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalent, OR;Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the jobExperience with employee supervisionExperience performing basic custodial workBasic computer skills with Microsoft Word and ExcelMust be able to pass CORI/SORI background checksPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:American Red Cross First-Aid & CPR/AED CertificationOne (1) year in a supervisory capacity that demonstrates directing recreation programs, sports related activities, outdoor recreational programs, or previous gatekeeper experienceOne (1) year of experience with planning, organizing, and supervising large groups of individuals in an outdoor environmentSTARTING SALARY: $16.00 hourly, seasonal, non-benefittedThe City of Worcester is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
