Armed Security Officer
An Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by monitoring and patrolling premises, preventing unauthorized access, and responding to potential security threats. They are entrusted with carrying a firearm and are trained to handle security incidents professionally while ensuring the safety of people, property, and assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of assigned premises, both inside and outside, to monitor security conditions and detect any suspicious activities or hazards.
- Control access to the property by checking identification, issuing visitor passes, and ensuring that only authorized personnel are allowed entry.
- Respond to emergencies, such as alarms, disturbances, or incidents involving trespassing, theft, or violence, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks.
- Carry and maintain a firearm, ensuring compliance with all legal and organizational regulations. Use the firearm only when necessary, in accordance with the law, and to protect people and property.
- Use security equipment such as surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems to monitor the premises for any signs of criminal activity or threats.
- Document incidents, accidents, security breaches, and other important events in detailed, accurate, and timely reports.
- Interact with the public, employees, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner, providing assistance when needed and maintaining a visible, authoritative presence.
- Be prepared to take charge in emergency situations, including evacuations, medical emergencies, or other critical incidents, while coordinating with local authorities when necessary.
- Work with other security officers, law enforcement, and emergency personnel to ensure the security of the site and smooth coordination during incidents.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, local regulations, and safety procedures at all times. Stay informed on legal requirements related to armed security.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional education or certifications).
- Must meet the LSBPSE requirements to hold an Armed security license in Louisiana.
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military service is preferred but not always required.
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Physical fitness to patrol and respond to incidents.
- Ability to handle a firearm responsibly and safely.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
- Capability to lift or carry objects (up to a specified weight limit).
- Ability to react quickly in emergency situations.
- Must be able to pass physical fitness assessments as required.
Work Environment
- May be required to work in various settings, including corporate offices, retail locations, industrial complexes, or government buildings.
- Shift work may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions may be required for outdoor patrols.
