Ansonia Public Schools Job Description JOB TITLE: Armed Security Officer Reports to: Superintendent and/or designeePosition Summary The Armed Security Officer will maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors by helping to develop, establish and enforce safety and security policies, access control procedures, accident prevention efforts, support risk management efforts, fire, safety emergency management, asset protection, and parking control and traffic enforcement programs.Essential Functions And Responsibilities Willingness to become a member of a collaborative school community serving children, staff, and familiesMust have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer with an organized local police department or the Division of State Police, and be willing to provide positive references from each employer.Must have been certified by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council while serving as a sworn law enforcement officer, and must have retired or separated in good standing from an organized local police department.Must not have been officially found to be unqualified for reasons relating to mental health by a qualified medical professional while serving as a sworn law enforcement officer or separating from services as a sworn law enforcement officerIf the candidate has prior military service, the candidate must have received an honorable dischargeMust hold and maintain a valid driver's license with no significant traffic violationsMust successfully complete annual training pursuant to the Police officer Standards and Training Council requirements and must successfully complete an annual firearms training provided by a certified firearms instructor that meets or exceeds the standards of the Police Officer Standards and Training council.Must keep all security certificate and training requirements current, including but not limited to permits, certifications and/or licenses to carry and use firearms or other weapons on school grounds.Must pass a full background investigation.Must meet all requirements for an armed security guard pursuant to Connecticut Law and must meet all requirements of a qualified retired law enforcement officer.Minimum Experience Law EnforcementSchool Security and PreparednessEmergency ManagementPreferred Experience Or Training POST-Approved Police Academy or equivalentFBI National Academy ProgramAdvanced Police Management ProgramNational Fire AcademyEmergency Management InstituteSecurity Training Programs or other comparable training programsTactical Response TrainingEmergency Management CertificationCEPTD/Mitigation TrainingHazard Mitigation & PreventionBachelor-Master Degree LicensesPossess a valid CT driver's licenseALICE trainerEvidence Of Insurability Clearences Criminal Justice FingerprintBackground Clearance DisclaimerSalary And Benefits The Armed Security Officer will be offered a one- year contract.
