Please note, the City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine a qualified pool of applicants exists, this position may be closed without notice.The Crime Analyst identifies crime patterns and trends, identify, collect, collect, and evaluate case information and intelligence in order to conduct research that assist police with the apprehension of offenders, clearance of cases, and suppression or prevention of further criminal activity.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSupports a highly motivated district that requires periods of high demands, and meeting deadlinesConducts research on district crimeAnalyzes and interprets crime data and applies statistical methodologies to identify trends, patterns, and seriesMakes recommendations, projections, and forecasts based on research and analysisConducts intelligence analysis to identify players, associates, and associationsProduces visual presentation aids and participates in internal and external law enforcement problem solving strategy meetingsMonitors criminal activity to determine suppression and /or displacement of crimeResponds to inter and intradepartmental requests for information and disseminates products accordinglyExtracts data from a variety of computer systemsPrepares detailed statistical reports and research findingsPerforms additional duties as assignedThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONSAn equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Education:Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or directly related field with courses in research, statistics, and crime analysisExperience:Two (2) years of experience as a research or crime analystLicenses And Certifications:NonePreferred Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or directly related fieldThree (3) years of experience as a research or crime analystKnowledge:Knowledge of tactical analytical skills; and crime analysis and criminal justice functions related to police department practices and procedures.Familiarity with intelligence software such as I2Knowledge of database querying software such as SQL preferredKnowledge of Open Source Intelligence such as, but not limited to Facebook, Snapchat, and InstagramAbilities:Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizensCommunicate effectively both orally and in writingMake presentations and accurately analyze dataSkills:Skill in the use of personal computers and databases, Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OutlookGIS mapping software and intelligence softwareEssential Personnel:When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.Physical Demands:Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift 10 pounds with or without assistanceOccasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standingFrequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipmentVision for reading, recording, and interpreting informationFrequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizensWork Environment:Essential duties performed primarily in an indoor office, public area settingEquipment Used:Frequently uses computer keyboard and telephone, fax machines, copiers and microfilm equipmentThis position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employmentFor Veterans preference : Please show all of your employment history, including military service and related documentation (DD214) on the application.The City of Aurora is an equal opportunity employer.
