Overview Job Description - Correctional Workshop Specialist-20021500 (2600054S)Organization: Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and CorrectionUnposting Date: Jul 22, 2026, 3:59:00 AMWork Location: Lebanon Correctional Institute, 3791 State Route 63 Lebanon, OH 45036Primary Location: United States of America-OHIO-Warren County-LebanonCompensation: $23.65Schedule: Full-timeUnion: OCSEAPrimary Job Skill: CorrectionsTechnical Skills: Basic Documentation, Corrections, Customer Service, Management, Purchasing, Stores, Inventory, SalesProfessional Skills: Active Learning, Attention to Detail, Creativity, Developing Others, Leading OthersResponsibilities Requires considerable knowledge of correctional workshop operating policies and procedures of the Ohio Penal Industries (OPI) shop.Oversees work of incarcerated individuals assigned to the OPI workshop and/or engaged in service delivery.Provides security and custody of incarcerated individuals.Trains incarcerated individuals in proper work methods, equipment operation and safety practices in the assigned area.Enforces institution rules and regulations.Maintains control of supplies, equipment, and tools (issues and records daily tool and chemical usage, inventory supplies).Assigns and reviews work (schedules incarcerated individuals; monitors and evaluates work performed and completes quality control checks).Ensures quality control specifications of products.Prepares and maintains records and reports of workshop activities.Inputs data into the manufacturing system as assigned (ERP).Oversees equipment maintenance (schedules routine and preventative maintenance) and/or workshop cleaning.Escorts and/or transports incarcerated individuals.Oversees shipping, receiving, storage and/or inventory of products and materials.Prepares and submits reports.Completes daily and month-end inmate payroll, month-end Earned Credit report, inmate performance evaluations, and weekly inspection report.Performs other related duties and security functions; attends in-service trainings; works on special projects and committees.Assists with ACA files and may be utilized in any other OPI shop due to staff shortages or extenuating circumstances.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals and percentages; 18 months of training or 18 months of experience in providing work direction to employees or a work crew; 3 months of training or 3 months of experience in employee training and development.- Or, for positions assigned to asbestos abatement program, successful completion of AHERA courses: asbestos building inspection initial course, asbestos management planner initial course, and asbestos abatement project supervisor initial course per EPA AHERA regulations.- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.Job Skills: Corrections, Customer Service, Management, Purchasing, Stores, Inventory, Sales, Basic Documentation, Active Learning, Attention to Detail, Creativity, Developing Others & Leading OthersBenefits Medical CoverageFree Dental, Vision and Basic Life Insurance premiums after completion of eligibility periodPaid time off, including vacation, personal, sick leave and 11 paid holidays per yearChildbirth, Adoption, and Foster Care leaveEducation and Development Opportunities (Employee Development Funds, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and more)*Benefits eligibility is dependent on a number of factors.
