Code Enforcement Officer
Receives and investigates code violation complaints; enforces building and municipal codes; attends court proceedings; communicates with citizens who may be upset and performs other related duties as assigned. This position may be assigned to work rotating Saturdays (with one of five code officers working on Saturday).
Example of Duties:
- Processes code violation complaints received in person and via telephone, mail, and email.
- Responds to code related inquires.
- Interprets and enforces City codes and ordinances; issues violation notices and citations as warranted.
- Investigates alleged violations in code; identifies and addresses health, trash, high grass, junk vehicle, and/or other types of code violations.
- Updates and maintains code files.
- Attends court proceedings and provides testimony pertaining to code violations.
- Travels assigned City district areas and proactively monitors for violations in code.
- Removes illegally placed signs from City/State rights-of-way and utility poles; and illegal dumping in rights-of-way.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental records and reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typical Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years code enforcement experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License is required.
- Code Enforcement Officer Certification and/or the ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
