Schedule:
- Morning Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:45 AM (minimum 1 hour of pay)
- Afternoon Shift: 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM (minimum 1 hour of pay)

Position Summary: The Town of Amherst, in partnership with SAU 39, is seeking dependable and safety-conscious individuals to serve as Crossing Guards. This part-time role plays a vital part in ensuring the safety of children crossing the street near Wilkins Elementary School. Crossing Guards manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic during designated school hours. Training will be provided.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Safely escort children and pedestrians across designated crosswalks.
  • Direct or stop traffic using hand signals or approved electronic devices.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings, including traffic flow, weather, and pedestrian movement.
  • Report traffic violations and unsafe conditions to a supervisor in writing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, especially with children.
  • Ability to stand outdoors for up to an hour per shift and remain alert.
  • Good judgment and ability to make quick decisions in traffic situations.
  • Familiarity with traffic regulations related to pedestrian crossings.
  • Ability to use traffic control devices and hand signals.
  • Professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with the public.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to hear and see within a normal range (with or without accommodations).
  • Able to stand, walk briskly, bend, squat, and step up/down curbs.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license or state-issued ID.
  • No prior experience required-training will be provided.
