The Ennis Fire Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Firefighter. The position posting and application period will remain open until the position is filled.

Essential Functions
Responds to emergencies and non-emergency calls for service, and performs fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required; determines the proper course of action and follows orders under stressful conditions.

Performs fire suppression and emergency management to address hazards,

emergency situations and hazardous materials incidents.

Operates emergency, fire, rescue, medical and life saving tools and equipment; assists and coordinates with law enforcement personnel and other responders as required.

Inspects and maintains Fire Department facilities, equipment and supplies; cleans, repairs and returns equipment to service after use.

Assists in the maintenance of required departmental and emergency response records.

Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment as required.

Inspects and maintains personal protective equipment and assures that all equipment is in a state of readiness and available for immediate use.

May perform the duties of the driver engineer in his/her absence.

Participates in public education, prevention and safety activities as required

Maintains educational, physical, and training requirements as required by the Department.

Has frequent contact with employees, citizens, local state, federal agencies, and other city departments.

Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Necessary knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fire Department general orders, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Principles and practices of modern fire and emergency medical operations and procedures.
  • Principles, practices, and equipment used in modern firefighting and emergency medical operations.
  • Care and maintenance of fire and emergency medical apparatus and equipment.
  • City geography; the location of all streets, sites and building locations; and the hazards of these facilities.
  • Training techniques, preventative maintenance actions for fire equipment and apparatus; and record keeping.
  • Operation of various types of communication systems, apparatus and equipment used in fire and emergency medical work.
  • Current trends in strategy and tactics for deployment of equipment in fire and emergency situations.
  • Analyzing emergency situations, evaluating alternatives, and using critical thinking to make recommendations.
  • Understanding laws and regulations, following directions, maintaining composure, and working effectively under stressful conditions and emergency situations.
  • Maintaining a high level of discipline and morale; performing proper training and instructional procedures.
  • Fire equipment and vehicle maintenance, care, and operation.
  • Training and evaluating personnel, volunteers, and public.

Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses Required
Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).

Required TCFP Basic Firefighter Certification, DSHS EMT Certification, DSHS Paramedic Certification (following completion of paramedic school).

Paramedic-only candidates must obtain their TCFP Basic Firefighter certification within six (6) months of employment.

A Valid Class B Texas Commercial driver license within twelve (12) months of employment and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.
