Job Description
OverviewThe primary purpose of the Lead Cashier is to prepare the daily balancing report; ensure electronic fund transfers (EFTs) are processed daily. Process lockbox payment files in the morning to ensure payments are posted timely and paid accounts can be removed from the daily disconnection list. (The disconnection work order is stopped for customers that have paid their past due bill.) Prepare the daily balancing report for all Central Cashiering transactions, update the NSF reconciliation spreadsheet, update First View credit card spreadsheet, and update the 228 report for the Central Cashiering deposits and will pen as a relief Cashier, as required.
Responsibilities
• Process lockbox payment files from Western Union, Frost Bank, Fiserv, and Mastercard
• If there is an error in posting payments, then research will need to be performed to determine how the payment should be posted, in the event of error a payment is reversed out of RCS cashiering software and posted correctly
• Process bank adjustments and posts corrections for voids or payment reversals, correcting entries require segregation of duties between Central Cashiering staff
• Update the NSF reconciliation spreadsheet daily
• Provide departments with documentation of returned items by email
• Verify that Central Cashiering return items have been properly recorded
• Assist customers by researching payment questions
• Notifies UBO staff of all errors whether by City staff or by customer so that corrections can be submitted and processed
• Download credit card information from First View for all departments and inserts information into the credit card reconciliation spreadsheet for Cash Management staff to reconcile
• Prepare the daily balancing report for the prior day
• Review documentation to verify that all amounts posted in RCS cashiering software, balance to the documentation for each transaction posted
• Help Central Cashiering staff with the de-escalation of irate customers
• Communicate with departments on return items
• Open as a relief Cashier for walk-in and mailed in payments when Senior Clerk Collectors are short staffed
• Provide check stock to Cash Management staff for check runs
• Follow up with Finance Accountants on unrecorded ACH payments due to vacation or illness
• Follows up with departments on returned items to verify they have been resolved
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• Four (4) Years of Experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Intermediate knowledge in Excel
Preferred
• Bilingual in English/Spanish

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
