Summary

Crossing Guard

Provides for the safe crossing of students and pedestrians at designated crosswalks before and after school. Ensures traffic safety and promotes a secure environment for students traveling to and from school.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure crosswalks are safe and clear prior to escorting students across the roadway.
  • Assist students and pedestrians in crossing streets safely.
  • Monitor traffic and use appropriate safety procedures to control vehicle flow as needed.
  • Maintain a visible and alert presence at assigned crossing locations.
  • Communicate in a friendly and professional manner with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Essential Behavior:

  • Ability to use sound judgment in any situation.
  • Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and respond appropriately to communication received.
  • Ability to project a professional district image through in-person, phone, and electronic interaction.
  • Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position.
  • Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person.
  • Must observe district policies, including non-smoking policy.

Attendance Statement: Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

Environmental Conditions: Primarily outside working conditions with exposure to extreme environmental conditions. Must be able to work in all types of weather.

Physical Standards: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
