Job Description
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES : The person selected will be expected to:• Organize and teach all levels of lecture and laboratory courses covering the entire range of the veterinary technology curriculum offered at Yuba College
• Prepare students to become eligible to take state board examinations and work as practicing Registered Veterinary Technicians
• Maintain ongoing AVMA accreditation, submit required reports, work with outside agencies, and develop an active advisory committee
• Prepare and complete course syllabi and outlines
• Develop and maintain a relevant veterinary technology curriculum, and assist in facilitating appropriate transfer/articulation agreements with high schools and four-year colleges/universities
• Facilitate student learning by working to develop every student’s abilities and by designing varied and motivating learning environments, which may include distance learning (interactive television, online) and accelerated courses
• Teach courses as assigned to meet student needs
• Work with other related departments
• Participate in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees
• Be committed to, and participate in, the shared-governance process
Essential Duties Summary REQUIRED DUTIES :
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Required Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for an AVMA accredited school:
• Possess a current Doctor of Veterinary Medicine license and become licensed to practice in California OR
• The equivalent
• Knowledge of laws governing the activities and education of Veterinary Technicians in California
• Experience as a practicing DVM in a clinical setting
Desired/Preferred Qualifications DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :
• Previous teaching, employment, or student experiences that provide the candidate with the ability to successfully teach veterinary technology
• Understanding of the needs of a diverse student population as they relate to the mission of the Yuba Community College District
• Knowledge and/or experience in related disciplines such as biochemistry, biology, agriculture, animal science, or chemistry
• Experience supervising and/or working with a diverse student population
• Background in the use of computers or technology in the classroom/laboratory
• Previous teaching experience utilizing distributive education (interactive television, online, etc.). Working knowledge of html authoring tools and managing on-line media supported curriculum
• Experience with both small and livestock/farm animals preferred
