Summary
Lead Quality Compliance Inspector
The Lead Quality Compliance Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all components, manufactured and purchased, including raw material comply with all specified quality, technical, and regulatory requirements. This position provides technical leadership to the inspection team while maintaining compliance with ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements applicable to the manufacture of critical submarine components.
The Lead Quality Compliance Inspector serves as the primary point of contact for quality inspection activities, assists with training and mentoring inspectors, supports audits, and works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality to ensure product conformity and complete objective quality evidence (OQE).
Essential Functions
- Lead daily inspection activities for incoming, in-process, final, and source inspections in accordance with industry standards, internal procedures, and customer requirements
- Assist the Production Manager to assign inspection priorities based on production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, military standards, and customer purchase order requirements.
- Verify dimensional, visual, and functional conformity against drawings, specifications, and standards. Accept or reject product based on findings.
- Conduct inspections using precision measuring instruments and gauges
- Verify material certifications, heat lot traceability, and special process documentation.
- Review manufacturing travelers for completeness and compliance.
- Ensure full material traceability is maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
- Review and approve First Article Inspection Reports (AS9102) when applicable.
- Compile and verify Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) packages for customer shipment.
- Review Certificates of Conformance (CoC), material certifications, process certifications, and inspection reports.
- Identify nonconforming material and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
- Assist in Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action investigations.
- Coordinate Material Review Board (MRB) activities as required.
- Assist in preparation and submission of Vendor Information Requests (VIRs), deviation requests, and waiver requests.
- Support internal, customer, third-party, and government audits.
- Maintain record compliance to ISO 9001, customer specifications, NAVSEA requirements, and company procedures.
- Monitor calibration status of inspection equipment.
- Ensure inspection records are complete, accurate, and maintained according to quality system requirements.
- Train and mentor Quality Inspectors on inspection techniques, documentation requirements, and customer specifications.
- Recommend process improvements to improve quality and reduce defects.
- Assist Quality Manager with continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and security requirements associated with defense programs
- Light lifting, ability to move, carry and/or lift up to 25 lbs
- Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors and immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervision.
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Skills
Preferred
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Associates degree or technical education preferred.
- Past leadership or lead inspector experience
- Communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to manage time effectively and maintain a schedule
- Strong understanding / knowledge of GD&T, Blueprint Reading, Inspection Methodologies, Material Certifications, Quality Control Standards
- Strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
- Basic Mathematical Skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
- Excellent organizational skills required
- Basic knowledge of and ability to use a computer
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment
- Prior Quality Control experience
- Prior experience with ISO 9001 QMS
- Current or previous Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) certifications (ASNT Level I, II, or III) in one or more methods such as Visual Testing (VT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Hands-on experience performing or interpreting NDT inspections in accordance with NAVSEA, ASTM, AWS, or other applicable military and industry standards is highly desirable.
- Candidates possessing current or verifiable NDT certifications may be eligible for additional compensation commensurate with their qualifications and the company's operational needs
