Job Description

Overview

Under general supervision, or working independently, this position will support the Director of Intergovernmental Relations in planning, managing, and overseeing the activities of the Intergovernmental Relations Office.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the department liaison to the other City departments, City Manager's Office, elected officials, and outside agencies

• Maintains an awareness of legislative activities affecting City operations

• Informs the Intergovernmental Relations Director and other appropriate staff of all legislative issues affecting the City

• Coordinates legislative tracking with relevant departments to review all Federal and State legislative and regulatory information impacting the City with other departments and outside agencies and organizations

• Works with designated department staff to analyze and interpret pending and proposed legislation to assess its impacts on the City, and prepare recommendations to adopt effective courses of actions

• Assist IGR director in managing event sponsorships to track Council and ELT attendance at events and assign table placement for attendees

• Works with Engineering and other involved departments to assist in grant application development and monitor progress of Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grants, Defense Community Infrastructure Program, and other grant programs as directed to ensure program completion and compliance

• Assist IGR Director in managing council presentations, agenda memos, invoice processing and other administrative tasks as assigned

• Under supervision of Director, coordinates with the City's contract lobbyists to monitor and coordinate legislative tracking

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Exempt - Full-Time
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree (BA/BS)

• Three (3) years of experience

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
