Overview

The Parks Technician I - Athletic Field Operations is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled labor in various aspects of Athletic Field Maintenance Program including turf and skinned area maintenance, irrigation, minor constructions, repairs and related service activities for the City's sport complexes.

Responsibilities

• Performs athletic field and ground maintenance including mowing, aerifying, topdressing, seeding, sodding, trimming, field painting, irrigation and turf care

• Fertilizes, spay chemicals including insectides, herbicides, soil conditioners and related chemicals

• Follows proper safety precautions; installations and care of trees and shrubs, proper pruning techniques and tree removal

• Performs infield maintenance and repair work of baseball/softball fields including watering infields, repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter's boxes and transition areas of infield and outfield

• Constructs new planting areas and maintain high traffic wear areas on athletic fields

• Operate a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects including tractors, lawn mowers, power and hand tools

• Performs maintenance of irrigation systems including preventative maintenance, replacement of heads, broken pipes, winterization and summarization of irrigation system and monitor flow rates of fields

• Repairs and preventative maintenance repair work of equipment, buildings and facilities by performing a variety of equipment renovation, semi-skilled plumbing, carpentry, masonry, concrete work, roofing, painting and electrical work

• Picks up paper and other debris; sweep entrances; clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restrooms; replenish and maintain restroom supplies including soap dispensers, tissues and towels

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full Time - Rotating and non-rotating work schedules are available; days and times will vary

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• No prior experience is required

Licenses and Certifications

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
