Job Description

The City of Foster City is looking for part-time Building Services Coordinator to support the Parks and Recreation Department! The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, and hands-on, with excellent customer service skills and experience working with the public. They are comfortable working independently, setting up furniture and equipment, performing facility checks, and handling minor maintenance needs. They take initiative, pay attention to detail, prioritize tasks effectively, and use good judgment. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable providing direction, training, and day-to-day supervision to part-time staff.

Work Schedule
The anticipated schedule is approximately 30 hours per week, generally Wednesday through Sunday, with the schedule adjusted based on facility, program, rental, and event needs. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education : Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.

Experience : Providing public services, information and directions; providing arrangements and coordination for group functions and activities; performing minor maintenance and repairs; moving and storing equipment, furniture, and supplies.

Special Requirements
Ability to safely lift, move and store chairs, tables, and equipment; work with limited direct supervision; work flexible hours; remain calm and use good judgement in difficult and emergency situations; provide courteous public information; ability to identify problems and recommend solutions; drive a car/van to various City facility locations and other businesses in the community.

Licenses
Possession of a valid State of California Class “C” License and a good driving record. Driving record is subject to initial and periodic review.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Parks & Recreation Department will make the hiring decision.

Expected Dates for Examinations (subject to change) :
Oral Panel Interview: October 2026 (exact date TBD)
Department Interview: October 2026 (exact date TBD)

Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee that a candidate will be invited to participate in the selection process. The City of Foster City reserves the right, at its discretion, to limit the number of qualified candidates invited to the selection process.

This is a 30 hours per week position with prorated benefit. This position will receive 3/4 of the AFSCME bargaining unit benefits:
