Summary
Public Works Laborer
Public Works Laborer is responsible to the Public Works Department & Village Board for the implementation and completion of the following:
Knowledge/Skills to have or obtain:
- Minimum High School Diploma
- Class A or Class B CDL License (including airbrakes & Tanker endorsement)
- Water & wastewater treatment licenses or willing to obtain licenses required for job within two years of hire
- Attend classes or workshops to gain & maintain knowledge of water & wastewater treatment plants
- Good time management and self-motivation skills
- Knowledge of pumps: centrifugal, diaphragm, etc.
- Welding
- General knowledge of electrical - 1 phase and 3 phase
- Computer skills
- Hands-On Physical Job Duties:
- Ability to be on feet 68 hours per day
- Ability to bend, twist, squat, climb, reach
- Ability to drive 8 hours
- Ability to operate foot controls on equipment
- Ability to shovel - dirt, snow, blacktop, etc.
- Operate grader, loader, dump/plow truck, etc.
- Lifting 200# maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of 50# items
- Maintenance of village property grounds and buildings, including cleaning, painting, plumbing repairs, etc.
- Snow removal
- Street patching
- Lawn care and maintenance
- Ability to perform maintenance on heavy and light duty equipment and on heavy, medium & light duty trucks
- Ability to repair small engines and lawn equipment
- Handle & use chain saw, brush cutter, ax & other various small power or manual tools
Public Works Laborer must be willing to assist the Public Works Director in the completion of the duties of day-to-day operations of the Water Plants, Wastewater Plant, Street Maintenance, & Village property maintenance. Must have the ability to work alternate weekends, with the flexibility to work in snow removal and water/sewer emergencies after regular scheduled hours.
