Summary

Animal Control Officer

Boone County Fiscal Court will consider lateral placement commensurate with experience. An employee in this class is responsible for the enforcement of state and local animal control laws within the jurisdiction of unincorporated Boone County and Cities of Florence, Union and Walton.

Animal Control Officers provide quality services, protection and compassion to its citizens and animals, and assist in the general operation of the Animal Shelter 7 days week. Duties are performed under general supervision.

Classification and wages commensurate with experience. All classifications are full-time, non-exempt.

ACO I: Pay Band 3 starts at $20.50 hourly.

  • This is an entry level position with no previous experience required.
  • The ACO I performs duties within the Animal Care & Control department or Animal Shelter under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Sergeant or Director.
  • KACCA ACO Basic Certification (required by statute)
  • In House Training
  • NACA Level I Certification (or equivalent)

ACO II: Pay Band 4 starts at $22.00 hourly.

  • Two (2) years of experience as an ACO and/or related profession equivalent.
  • Complete All ACO Level I Requirements
  • NACA Level II Certification (or equivalent)
  • ICS-100, ICS-200 and IS-700
  • At least 2 of the following: large animal rescue certification, livestock investigation certification, animal behavior/training certification
  • 3 approved CE hours, 3 approved CE hours to be completed annually

Animal Control Sergeant: Pay Band 4 starts at $25.00 hourly.

  • Supervisory position
  • Four (4) years of experience as an ACO and/or related profession equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience at a supervisory level.
  • All ACO Level I & II Requirements (within 1 year of hire for external candidates possessing equivalent experience)
  • Chemical Immobilization Certification within a time period designated by the Director of Animal Services
  • Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners Euthanasia Specialist License within a time period designated by the Director of Animal Services
  • Completion of 3 Approved CE Hours (continuing obligation)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of service as an ACO Level II or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
