Morris School District Safety Officer
Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students and adults. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff. Perform a variety of duties involved in the protection of District students, staff, visitors and property by helping to enforce District safety and security policies and helping to prevent injuries, thefts and vandalism or other undesired activities. Must be retired law enforcement Must have a valid permit issued by the NJSP to carry a handgun Bachelor's degree preferred Certification as a School Resource Officer preferred EMT, or First Aid & CPR and SORA certification preferred Experience working in school settings with school-aged students preferred Good communications skills Criminal history background check
Job Summary: Provide for the safety and security of all students, employees and the general public who are on Morris School District Board of Education property. Minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents. Reporting observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well-being of students, employees and/or visitors.
Responsibilities:
- Implement the building security plan on a daily basis.
- Ensure the safety and security of all persons in the school building, on school grounds, and at school sponsored events.
- Facilitate the orderly and efficient daily routines for students and staff.
- Consistently enforce the MHS code of conduct, District rules and regulations, and local statues with all students.
- Monitor the halls, stairwells and grounds to maintain a safe environment.
- Monitor entrance of students, visitors, and other persons to maintain security of building.
- Work overtime as assigned.
- Work with administrators or their designees and office personnel in locating and escorting students in the building.
- Knowledge of the building Crisis Management Plan and ability to implement such.
- Prepare reports and logs as requested by supervisor.
- Attend department meetings and professional development sessions as required.
- Maintains all certifications and firearms qualifications in order to maintain their permit to carry a handgun by the State of New Jersey.
- Must wear and maintain all district-issued equipment
- Enforces school and district policies and enforcement of procedures to students, employees and visitors for the purpose of ensuring safety and security.
- Visually checks and stops, if necessary, vehicles entering or leaving school property to determine whether occupants have legitimate business on or off school property.
- Monitors all access points to each school building the security officer is assigned to.
- Ensures proper operation of the camera system, doors, ID machines, etc. Reporting any malfunctions by submitting work orders or incident reports.
- Assists building administration in daily operations throughout the school day that enforce the safety and security of the building and the people on the property.
- Conducts foot and vehicle patrols on BOE property throughout their shift.
- Assists during emergency drills and works closely with the administration to facilitate safe and efficient security and fire drills.
- Performs checks to ensure students, employees and visitors have their ID cards properly displayed.
- Supervise student parking, student drop-offs, student dismissals, bus arrivals, and bus departures.
- Attend other activities as assigned by the District Manager of Safety and Operations, such as after school events.
- Documents and submits reports regarding any incidents that occur throughout the day.
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the District Manager of Safety and Operations.
Salary: In accordance with the established TEAM Salary Guide currently ranging from $35,000 to $45,000
Benefits: Full time employees are eligible for medical, prescription and dental benefits. Sick, personal and vacation day allotments are included.
