About This Position

This Austin Energy position plays a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable facilities that support daily operations across the utility. The role performs routine building repairs and assists with construction and installation activities on assigned projects. It includes conducting site inspections to identify maintenance needs and potential safety concerns, and providing clear, timely reports on findings. The position works closely with contractors, vendors, and internal divisions to coordinate repairs, maintenance services, and building moves to ensure projects are completed successfully. Responsibilities also include compiling data, preparing cost estimates, and maintaining accurate project status reports. The role monitors lease agreements and maintenance, installation, and construction contracts to ensure compliance and timely execution. Additionally, it involves researching information as needed and providing responsive customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to directly support Austin Energy’s mission by helping maintain high-quality facilities for employees and the community.

Job Description:

Facility Service Specialist

Purpose:

This position is responsible for providing maintenance and repairs to assigned buildings, including coordination of internal maintenance personnel or contractor vendors.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

• Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  
• Plans and performs basic building repairs and participates in construction/installation activities on assigned projects.
  
• Conducts site inspections and reports on maintenance needs and safety violations.
  
• Coordinates with contractors, vendors, and other divisions providing maintenance, repairs, and moves to assigned buildings.
  
• Calculates figures and compiles data and information for reports, cost estimates, etc.
  
• Prepares and maintains status reports on projects.
  
• Monitors lease agreements, maintenance contracts, equipment installation contracts, and construction contracts.
  
• Researches information as requested or needed.
  
• Answers questions from internal and external customers.

• Knowledge of general maintenance practices.
  
• Knowledge of monitoring of contracts and/or vendors.

• Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  
• Skill in planning and organizing.
  
• Ability to coordinate contract work crews providing maintenance and repairs to a variety of building sites.
  
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years relevant work experience.
  
• Experience may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
  

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Class C Driver License.
  
• If required by position: Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL). Specific endorsements may be required to be obtained within 120 days of hire.
  

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to bend, lift, walk, carry, or use a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• EPA license or TDLR registered or the ability to obtain one of these credentials within six (6) months of hire.
  
• Experience with Building Automation System.
  
• Experience planning and performing basic building repairs on commercial or industrial facilities.
  
• Experience conducting site inspections and reporting maintenance needs or safety violations.
  
• Experience coordinating work with contractors, vendors, or other divisions providing maintenance repairs.
  
• Experience monitoring lease agreements, maintenance contracts, equipment installation contracts or construction contracts.
  
• Experience responding to questions from internal and external customers regarding facilities or maintenance issues,

Driving Requirement:

This position requires a Valid Texas Class "C" Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin Driver Safety Standards . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Good Standing Employees

Employees, in Good Standing, who are candidates within the department/division that the position resides in and who meet the minimum and all of the preferred qualifications (if any) of the position will be included in the initial interview. Department/division employee must remain in Good Standing through the Top Candidate Selection phase at which time the Good Standing status will be re-verified.
