NO CERTIFICATIONS - $68,589.04 annually

EMT-BASIC - $69,792.84 annually

PARAMEDIC - $ 77,945.66 - $ 87,305.66 annually

  1. Residents of Allen County, OH may receive a voucher to cover the cost of the entry level exam
  2. Residents of Allen County, OH may receive a voucher to cover the cost of the firefighter mile physical exam

HIRING SERVICE CREDIT FOR PRIOR SERVICE EXPERIENCE

Starting pay may be increased based on prior service as a certified Firefighter II/Paramedic.

Prior service credit may be granted from another fire department as a Firefighter II/Paramedic licensure for the purpose of vacation accrual.

BENEFITS

53 hour work week (California Shift Schedule)

467 to 727 hours of PTO annually (based on seniority or service credit)

158.47 hours of sick leave annually

Uniform Allowance $1020 annually

City paid training and hourly pay for attendance

Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance

Ohio Police and Fire Pension

Pre-Tax Deferred Compensation and Roth IRA plans available

Firefighter are represented by the IAFF Local 334 Union

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • US Citizen
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Ohio State Driver's License
  • Permanent residency in Allen County OR a contiguous county within 18 months
  • Age 18 to 40 at time of appointment
  • State of Ohio Firefighter II Certification
  • Not required to apply, the City of Lima will pay for Ohio Fire Academy tuition, lodging, meals, and salary during the 10 week course.
  • State of Ohio Paramedic
  • Not required to apply, the City of Lima will pay for paramedic school tuition, books, testing fees, and overtime pay for classroom/clinical hours. (Certification is required 30 months after enrollment in Paramedic school.)

The Lima Fire Department is 100% career organization providing fire, EMS, and rescue services to the City of Lima. Responding to approximately 6100 calls (71% EMS % 29% Fire) annually from 3 stations throughout the city. The Lima Fire Department provides services to 38,771 residents across 13.75 square miles with a staff consisting of 4 administrative chiefs, 3 battalion chiefs, 5 captains, 7 lieutenants, 3 inspector/investigator, and 55 firefighters.
