The City of Murrieta is seeking a flexible – strong communicator, collaborative, responsive, and visionary leader to serve as its next Director of Public Works/Engineering. The ideal candidate will be a strategic, forward-thinking executive who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills. This individual will combine technical expertise with sound judgment, political acumen, and a customer-service mindset to successfully lead a high-performing department while advancing the City's infrastructure and capital improvement priorities.
Qualified candidates will possess a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and abilities necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, public administration, construction management, engineering management, or a closely related field is required, along with five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in public works, municipal engineering, or public infrastructure management. This experience must include at least three (3) years in a supervisory, management, or leadership role with significant responsibility for budgeting, personnel management, capital improvement programs, and departmental administration. A master's degree in civil engineering, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field is highly desirable. Experience in municipal government and registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California are also highly desirable. The annual salary range for the Director of Public Works/Engineering is $240,731.89-$310,782.40; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
