Job Description

Overview

The Construction Inspector I is responsible for inspecting and ensuring that construction projects adhere to the Infrastructure Design Manuel (IDM), Unified Development Code (UDC), ordinances, regulations, and contract specifications. This role involves site visits, monitoring construction activities, and providing daily reports on progress and any issues. The Construction Inspector I requires working closely with contractors, engineers, and project managers to ensure quality control and compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state, UDC, IDM, regulations and approved plans

• Monitors contractor activities and verify work meets quality standards and project specifications

• Assists in reviewing construction plans and specifications to identify potential issues before construction begins

• Documents inspection results, noting any deviations from approved plans, and provides recommendations for corrective actions

• Maintains detailed daily logs and prepare comprehensive reports on the status and progress of construction projects

• Communicates effectively with contractors, engineers, architects, and project managers regarding inspection findings

• Assists in reviewing and verifying contractors' work completion for reimbursement agreement payment requests

• Ensures all safety protocols are being followed on the construction site

• Attends project meetings and provides input on construction progress and potential issues

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Four (4) years of experience in Municipal Infrastructure or another related field

Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

• Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
