Deputy General Counsel

This position serves as a Deputy General Counsel within the Office of General Counsel of the Indiana Supreme Court. The primary responsibility of the position is to act as legal advisor, in tandem with the General Counsel, to the judges of Indiana on legal issues affecting the operation of Indiana's court system and administrative functions. These issues may include ethics, employment law, public records access, liability and risk management.

Serves as a subject matter resource for all the judges of Indiana on legal issues such as ethics, employment law, public records access, liability and risk management. This includes advising on ADA, FMLA, county versus court authority, anti-discrimination laws, and other employment laws. Provides training as requested on employment law and ethics issues and may assist in employment law investigations concerning the administration of the trial courts. Provide representation to judges and courts in administrative forums, including but not limited to Department of Workforce Development, EEOC, and ICRC. Review staff handbooks and draft employment policies. Provides attorney and staff support for various judicial and multi-branch interdisciplinary governmental committees. Assists with the processing of praecipes filed under Trial Rule 53.1 and 53.2. Assists with the coordination of special judge appointments. Serves as ADA Coordinator for the Indiana Supreme Court and its agencies. Additional duties as assigned.

Juris Doctorate and an active license to practice law in Indiana. Integrity, professionalism, communication, organization, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, information gathering, technology and tool usage.
