Job SummaryPerforms timely service of all criminal and civil processes issued by the courts and enforces local, state and federal laws. This classification serves as a lead/senior level and/or oversees a special detail of a program within the constable's office and engages in investigatory duties with minimal supervision as required by the department.Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis job is within the Non-TCSO POPS job family. It is a second level job within the uniformed Constable series. This job is distinguished from the Deputy Constable job by the additional experience and testing required to obtain this level.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEnforce local, state and federal laws and serve as a liaison to other agencies and the publicSeize property under court orders and hold auction on levied propertyEnforce local, state, federal, and compulsory school attendance laws as requiredRespond to inquiries and serve as liaison to other agencies and the publicTransport prisoners to jail and may transport persons committed to mental institutions to state hospitalServe warrants, make arrestsServe as a bailiff for Justice of the Peace courtRespond to major emergencies and disastersAssist with decisions concerning a law enforcement unit, and train, educate and assist new Deputy ConstablesDeliver and execute civil process papers; maintain records and files of executions receivedProvide building security services and person inspectionsMay perform traffic related functionsCheck title and serial numbers on vehicles, maintain patrol vehicles, and search for missing personsPerform other job-related duties as assignedMinimum RequirementsEducation and Experience : Requires a High School diploma or equivalency certificate with no felony convictions; must be at least 21 years of age; must be honorably discharged from the military and any law enforcement agency; requires active TCOLE license; if under 21, must have 60+ hours of accredited college credits or 2 years of military service with honorable discharge.Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements : Requires basic certification as a law enforcement officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement; requires two (2) years of law enforcement experience.Preferred Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special RequirementsIntermediate or higher law enforcement officer certification from TCOLECivil Process Proficiency certification from TCOLEPreferredBilingual (Spanish)Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesClass C warrantsCriminal and Civil Justice SystemCriminal Justice systemLaw enforcement process and arrest practicesRules of Civil ProcedureSkillsWriting incident reportsCommunicating effectivelyUse of a firearmAbilitiesWrite incident reportsExecute warrantsRespond to unexpected situations in a reasonable and professional mannerSafely operate a police vehicleWork Environment & Other InformationConstant standing, handling, use of vision, depth perception, frequent reaching, forceful gripping, use of fine dexterity, occasional sitting, walking, climbing, kneeling/crouching, bending/squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, talking; exposure to excessive heat and cold (outdoor conditions); job may involve danger due to contact with criminals and suspects; must be able to perform physical functions associated with operating a motor vehicle, safely operate a firearm, radio equipment and computer equipment.Work HoursMonday - Thursday, 10 hours or Tuesday - Friday, 10 hours.Location8656-B HWY 71 W, STE. 100 AUSTIN, TX 78735DepartmentConstable 3Background ChecksCriminal, Driving, Education, and Employment Background Checks Required.ContactFor updates or questions on this position, contact:DisclaimerThis job description is intended to be generic in nature.
