Description

The Safeplan Court Advocate represents the YWCA of Central Massachusetts and its mission by providing critical support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking within a court-based setting. This role involves offering advocacy, safety planning, and assistance navigating the legal system, including obtaining and maintaining M.G.L. c. 209A protective orders. The Safeplan Court Advocate will act as a liaison between Safeplan and Domestic Violence Services, ensuring that victims receive the resources and support they need to navigate the legal system and achieve safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide court-based advocacy services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
  • Assist individuals in obtaining abuse and harassment prevention orders through the court system.
  • Provide support, safety planning, referrals, and empowerment advocacy to victims engaged in the court system.
  • Assist with referrals and arrangements for additional legal services as needed.
  • Collect and report statistical data as required by the program.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all advocacy efforts and client interactions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, particularly in a court-based setting, is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with M.G.L. c. 209A protective orders and related legal procedures is a plus.
  • Prior experience in advocacy, crisis intervention, and safety planning is highly desirable.
  • Ability to perform calmly in crisis situations
  • Valid MA driver's license
