Police Officer - Academy Graduate
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for the position of Police Officer – Academy Graduate. The Gilroy Police Department is located 28 miles south of San Jose, in Santa Clara County, and serves a diverse population base of approximately 60,000 residents. The Gilroy Police Department (GPD) provides 24 hours patrol services responding to public safety calls for service and implementing crime suppression, conducting investigations, traffic enforcement and accident investigation and solving civil conflicts, arresting suspects and engaging in directed patrol missions to prevent or reduce crime in order to protect life and property for the citizens of Gilroy.

The base annual salary for this position is $112,899 - $151,301*. Potential compensation includes holiday pay, bilingual pay, education pay, and annual uniform pay. Applications will be continuously reviewed.
The essential duties of this position include patrolling an assigned beat, enforcing laws and regulations, investigating accidents and offenses, making arrests, responding to dispatches, controlling traffic, giving citations, working with juveniles, intervening in disputes, appearing in court, providing first aid, maintaining equipment, working varied shifts, conducting follow-up investigations, reporting vice conditions, performing specialized functions, participating in training programs, and speaking in front of community groups.
Requirements for this position include graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate, completion of a P.O.S.T. approved basic academy, being at least 21 years of age, passing a physical agility test, meeting medical standards, passing a background investigation, passing a psychological evaluation and medical examination, possessing a valid California river license, being proficient in typical police weaponry, passing all required department and P.O.S.T. training, obtaining C.P.R. and First Aid within six months of hire, establishing residency within 45 minutes normal driving time from the Gilroy Police Station within 18 months from date of hire, and being a non-tobacco user.
