Sheriff's Deputy (DCJS Certified)

Vacancy Announcement Sheriff's Deputy (DCJS Certified) Full-Time Starting salary: $57,150 - $61,440 (negotiable with experience) The Fredericksburg Sheriff's Office is taking applications from Virginia DCJS certified law enforcement officers for position of full time deputy. The primary duty of the Sheriff's Office is to secure the courthouse and serve civil process, as well as prisoner transports. As a secondary function, the Sheriff's Office may carry out routine law enforcement duties. An online application must be completed before applicant is considered for testing. You are not permitted to test unless invited by Deputy Sheila Jones via email or phone prior to testing.

Arrive 15 minutes prior to testing. Tardiness will disqualify you from testing. Bring your valid driver's license. Dress appropriately. You are not allowed to possess cellphones, smart watches and any device that access the internet in the courthouse.

The testing process consists of the following:

  • Written Exam
  • Lawfit Assessment
  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph
  • Psychological test
  • Medical Examination
  • Conditional Offer
  • Oral review board
  • Interview with the Sheriff

Minimum Requirement for deputy positions:

  • 21 years of age by the completion of the law enforcement basic academy
  • United States Citizen
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No more than two moving violations in the last two years
  • No convictions of DUI, eluding, or leaving the scene of an accident in the last 5 years
  • No record of two or more DUI's
  • No Driver's License revocation or suspension in the last 5 years
  • No convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanors involving moral turpitude
  • Not convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to any misdemeanor sex offense including sexual battery or consensual intercourse with a minor 15 or older
  • No convictions, pleas of guilty or no contest to any offense of domestic battery
  • You must undergo a background investigation including fingerprint based criminal history records
  • Undergo a physical examination before the conditional offer of employment
  • Must have a negative result on pre-employment drug screening
