We are invested in the success of our teams and the individuals who represent Stanford Libraries.About the Position:Stanford Libraries is seeking a collaborative, dynamic, and service-oriented Weekend Library Specialist to provide outstanding frontline customer services for the Library Circulation team at the Cecil H. Green Library. This position is 50% (20 hours per week), with a Friday-Sunday schedule. We value colleagues who perform effectively in and contribute successfully to a diverse, multicultural workplace environment.The Weekend Library Specialist is a member of the Circulation team and is primarily responsible for staffing public service desks, providing direct customer service for most of each shift. This position develops a broad understanding of library services, policies, resources, and facilities and effectively communicates that information to library users. The Specialist assists patrons with locating materials, navigating the library catalog, and finding resources within the building. Responsibilities include answering a wide range of library- and campus-related questions, processing routine circulation transactions such as checking materials in and out, and providing general support to library visitors. As a backup to the Welcome Desk, the Specialist also assists with visitor registration and bag inspections. When assigned to the Media Center, the Specialist supports patrons in using media collections (including microfilm, DVDs, and video games) and related equipment. The Specialist makes referrals to supervisors and other library departments as needed and engages Public Safety during emergencies or security-related incidents.When serving in a backup capacity at service points, the Specialist also assists with a variety of behind-the-scenes library operations. These duties may include picking requested books from the stacks, processing new materials, preparing returned items for circulation, and supporting collection management projects in the stacks, such as shelf maintenance, identifying items that require record updates, shifting collections, and shelving materials. The Specialist may also assist the Media Center with operational projects and patron support.In support of the Resource Sharing & Digital Delivery team, the Specialist may retrieve materials for interlibrary lending and scan book chapters or journal articles to create digital PDF copies for patrons.We are seeking a dependable, adaptable, and communicative individual who enjoys providing excellent customer service, collaborating with colleagues, and learning new skills. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, takes initiative, and is committed to creating a welcoming and positive experience for library users.Work Schedule:Academic Year: 50% schedule:Fridays 10:45am-7:45pmSaturdays 9:45am-6:45pm (includes 1-hr meal break)Sundays 12pm-4pmDuring intersessions (week between academic quarters) and summers, hours will change due to building schedule changes. Overtime hours will be required at least 1 weekend per quarter to help staff extra building hours for exam weeks.
