Position Police OfficerDepartment OperationsReports To SecurityTime Type Part Time, SeasonalFLSA Status Hourly, Non-ExemptResponsibilities Enforcing lawsEnsuring the safety and security of the public by responding to emergencies, aiding victims, and reducing or preventing involvement in crimeBuilding relationships with the community while helping to contribute to the health and safety of vulnerable populationsCreating community awareness by using crime prevention methods or intervention initiativesConducting investigations by interviewing suspects, witnesses, and collecting evidence at crime scenesParticipating in and testifying at court hearings when requiredProcessing incident reports with accurate detail and informationEducation and Experience Must have a High School Diploma or GEDA bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is requiredSeveral years of progressive law enforcement experience preferredSkills & Abilities Thorough understanding of law enforcement principles, practices, and proceduresKnowledge of local, state, and federal laws relevant to policingAbility to stay calm in stressful or high-risk situationsAbility to deescalate situations and prevent harm from occurringSkilled at solving problems and using critical thinkingExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCapability and desire to work in a collaborative manner with a wide range of peopleStrong negotiation and adjudicating skillsEffective decision-making and problem‑solving abilitiesAbility to build and maintain positive relationships within the department and the communityAbility to adapt to new technologies and incorporate them into policing practicesCompensation Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.Working Conditions and Location Location: On Site [5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC 29418].Physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
