There is one position available that can be filled at either level, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list for future openings without reposting.

What's this Job All About?

As an Information Technology Specialist for Colusa County, you’ll help keep the technology our County relies on running smoothly, securely, and efficiently. You’ll provide technical support to County departments, troubleshoot system issues, and install, maintain, and update hardware, software, networks, and other technology systems.

You’ll work closely with the IT team, County staff, and vendors to identify problems, develop solutions, support technology projects, and meet the technology needs of departments across the County. This is a varied role where strong problem-solving, communication, customer service, and teamwork skills are important. You’ll have opportunities to work with different technologies and departments, address a variety of operational needs, and continue building your technical skills while making a visible impact and building meaningful relationships in a supportive workplace that values work-life balance.

The IT Department is led by the Assistant County Administrative Officer, who serves as the Department Head, and the IT Manager, who oversees day-to-day operations and directly supervises this position. You’ll be part of a collaborative, service-oriented team where your work helps County employees provide essential services to the community.

Supervision & Examples of Duties

Receives immediate (Information Technology Specialist I) or general (Information Technology Specialist II) supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

IT Specialist I :

Experience:
Equivalent to one (1) year of experience analyzing, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer hardware, software and network devices, which includes working with various operating structures and database structures. (Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis).

Training:
Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or completion of an approved certificate program in computer science, information systems technology, management information systems or a related field.

License or Certificate:
Requires possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
IT Specialist II :

Experience:
Equivalent to the experience of an IT Specialist I plus two (2) years of experience in the design, oversight, coordination and operation of a department's automation system; which includes professional experience in network/server administration or application development. (Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis).

Training:
Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or completion of an approved certificate program in computer science, information systems technology, management information systems or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

License or Certificate:
Requires possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Requires the ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; ability to see; ability to hear and communicate orally; exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as data entry or use of other office equipment or supplies; occasionally requires sufficient strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying the weight of computer equipment; dexterity to climb or crawl necessary to install cable in areas of close tolerance; ability to operate a motor vehicle; involves extensive VDT exposure; may require the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Supplemental Information

Salary information ( based on 37.5 hour work week) :
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST I- $4,676 - $7,670 per month
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST II- $5,162 - $8,468 per month

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
