The District Attorney’s Office is hiring a Victim Witness Advocate - Limited Term to support victims of crime that are navigating the criminal justice system in Nevada County through the Victim Witness Assistance Center.

The Victim Witness Assistance Center is dedicated to reducing the trauma and insensitive treatment that victims and witnesses may experience in the aftermath of a crime. As a Victim Witness Advocate, you will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality victim services while helping to guide and support advocacy staff in delivering exceptional care. The position also offers the opportunity to serve as a liaison to the newly formed Family Justice Center of Nevada County, collaborating with multidisciplinary partners to coordinate services and improve outcomes for victims and their families.

This assignment will support the District Attorney's Office based in Nevada City, California.
As a Victim Witness Advocate, you will:

• Provide victim advocacy services to help reduce the risk of further victimization of victims and witnesses
• Conduct trauma-informed, culturally responsive intakes and assessments with Family Justice Center client
• Aid and support crime victims throughout the criminal justice process.
• Provide immediate and ongoing emotional and material support by offering resources and victim-related information
• Support clients in communication with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other justice system partners while honoring survivor choice
• Assist with California Victim Compensation Board applications for assistance
• Provide transportation for victims and witnesses to testify in court on an "as needed" basis
• Attend departmental meetings, seminars, and training as required

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Procedures and processes of the criminal justice system
• Laws, rules and regulations of the Victim/Witness Program
• Public and community resources available to victims of violent crime
• Standard office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment
• Interviewing techniques
• Aspects and approaches to social intervention

Salary:
$60,840.00 - $74,276.80 Annually
Education and Experience Required:
Equivalent to college level course work in social science, behavioral science, criminology, administration of justice or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND equivalent to one year of work experience involving processes in the criminal justice or judicial system which include the provision of victim services, peer counseling or social service work.

Education and Experience Required

COPIES OF DEGREES, TRANSCRIPTS, CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES LISTED AS REQUIRED IN THIS SECTION MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPLICATION

Equivalent to college level course work in social science, behavioral science, criminology, administration of justice or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND equivalent to one year of work experience involving processes in the criminal justice or judicial system which include the provision of victim services, peer counseling or social service work.

Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid California driver's license within 30 days of hire.

Must successfully complete the required forty-hour training curriculum for Victim Advocates within first year of full time employment, and obtain the appropriate victim advocate certification.

Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
