Job Description
DescriptionThe Cataloging Librarian leads the Library's Technical Services functions and plays a critical role in ensuring materials move efficiently from selection and acquisition to discovery and use by the community. This position oversees acquisitions, cataloging, processing, bibliographic database quality, vendor coordination, and Technical Services workflows and procedures. As a member of the Library's professional team, the Cataloging Librarian also provides reference and technology assistance at public service desks, participates in collection development and library-wide initiatives, and works collaboratively with staff and consortium partners.
Examples of Duties
- Lead and coordinate Technical Services operations and directly supervise Technical Services staff, including assigning work, providing guidance, and monitoring performance. Oversee acquisitions, cataloging, processing, and the efficient flow of materials from selection and ordering through final processing and availability to the public.
- Catalog, classify, and maintain library materials using established professional cataloging standards and practices, ensuring accurate, consistent, and accessible bibliographic records.
- Maintain and enhance the library's catalog database by editing records, resolving discrepancies, performing database cleanup, and supporting overall bibliographic integrity.
- Collaborate with colleagues throughout the library consortium to develop and maintain shared cataloging standards, practices, and database quality.
- Support collection management through material selection, evaluation, withdrawal, and coordination with vendors and other library service areas.
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, metadata practices, and developments in cataloging and integrated library systems, and help translate those changes into effective library practices.
- Provide training and technical support to library staff related to cataloging procedures, database records, and library systems.
- Participate as a professional librarian throughout the organization, including reference and public service, special projects, cross-department collaboration, and serving as Person in Charge when assigned.

Typical Qualification
Requires a master's degree from an accredited college or university in library science or a closely related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a public library.

COMPENSATION:
The Town's complete compensation package includes salary, benefits, and a high-performance culture. The Town package includes a health, dental, and vision insurance plan, participation in the state retirement system, optional 457 deferred compensation with a town match up to 6%, vacation, holidays, and additional comprehensive benefits.
The expected hiring range is $68,525-$73,000
The full hourly range is $68,525 - $102,787
Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.
