DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs administrative and para-professional support activities for the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT). Primary duties include processing requests for and creating HOT identification cards and identification letters used to assist individuals experiencing homelessness with obtaining government-issued identification and accessing services. The position also responds to emails and telephone inquiries, maintains records and information using computer-based systems, coordinates the distribution of completed identification documents to approved community partners, and provides general administrative support to HOT personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL:

• Receives, reviews, and processes requests for HOT identification cards and identification letters for individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Creates and maintains HOT identification records and related documentation using computer-based systems and databases.
• Monitors and responds to unit emails, telephone calls, and requests from community partners and other stakeholders.
• Coordinates the distribution and release of completed HOT identification cards and letters to authorized community partners.
• Develops and maintains professional working relationships with community organizations, homeless-service providers, governmental agencies, and other external partners.
• Utilizes computers and applicable software and information systems to enter, maintain, retrieve, organize, and track records, correspondence, statistical information, and other unit data.
• Provides administrative and operational support to police officers and other Homeless Outreach Team personnel as needed.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the unit supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.

“Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearance where required.”

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a High School Diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of related work experience is required, preferably in a law enforcement agency.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.

PREFERENCES

An associate degree or military experience is preferred.

Experience working in or supporting a law enforcement, military, public safety, governmental, or similarly structured organization is preferred. Applicants must be comfortable working in a law enforcement environment and demonstrate the ability to work professionally and collaboratively with sworn and civilian personnel.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
