Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) is seeking a qualified Police Sergeant to supervise police officers and other departmental employees in protecting the campus community and enforcing local, state, and federal laws.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Supervise police officers during patrols and incident investigations.
  • Prepare shift assignments and evaluate employee performance.
  • Review incident reports, accident reports, and daily logs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist command staff with departmental procedures and operational improvements.
  • Conduct crime and accident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Pursue and apprehend fleeing suspects when necessary.
  • Document and present evidence and provide legal testimony.
Minimum Qualifications

Three years of law enforcement experience.

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of required experience. A maximum of 60 semester hours may substitute for two years of experience.

Special Requirements

Applicants must:
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • Possess an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification if required.
  • Meet all applicable legal requirements concerning felony convictions or pending felony charges.

Applicants must have a current score for the 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) unless exempt under State Civil Service rules or policy. Applicants who need to take the examination may register for the Protective Services Exam here .
