The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Police Services Supervisor to be a part of the Police Department! The Torrance Police Department mission is to preserve public safety and quality of life within the City of Torrance, to respond effectively to the changing needs of the community, and to promote mutual respect between the Police Department and the people we serve.

The Torrance Police Department is the largest law enforcement agency in the South Bay and has proudly served the community of Torrance for more than 100 years. The Department is dedicated to preserving public safety and enhancing the quality of life for residents through professional, community-oriented policing and responsive public safety services. The Department employs sworn police officers and civilian professional staff who provide a full range of law enforcement services, including patrol operations, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, emergency communications, jail operations, community outreach, crime prevention, and specialized response teams. The Department is organized into four major bureaus - Administrative, Patrol, Special Operations, and Support Services - which work collaboratively to address the evolving needs of the community. Committed to the principles of integrity, professionalism, and service, the Torrance Police Department emphasizes strong community partnerships, transparency, and proactive problem-solving to ensure Torrance remains one of the safest and most desirable communities in Southern California.

The Records Unit serves as the central hub for processing, managing, and preserving the Torrance Police Department's official documents and data. This division is responsible for maintaining accurate and secure police records, including crime reports, arrest information, citations, and other critical documentation. Staff support frontline operations by providing timely information to sworn personnel, assisting the public at the counter, and responding to requests from outside agencies. The Records Unit ensures compliance with state and federal reporting requirements, oversees data entry into law enforcement databases, and upholds strict confidentiality standards. Through efficient workflow management and high-quality customer service, the Records Unit plays a vital role in supporting the mission and daily operations of the Torrance Police Department.

Hours: Candidates must be able and willing to work rotating shifts and holidays.

Qualification Guidelines

Experience & Education Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities is: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a law enforcement environment or similar agency that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary in the specific area of assignment. One year of supervisory or lead work experience is preferred. An Associate Degree or sixty (60) or more college units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, public or business administration, political science, or closely related field, is desirable.

  • Must possess and maintain a California Class C Driver's License.
  • Must complete a basic supervisory course
  • Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Records Supervisor Course and Public Records Act Course
  • California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) Basic Course
  • CLETS Train and Trainer Course
  • Penal, government and other laws and codes pertaining to the management, reporting and dissemination of criminal and related records and other information.
  • County and municipal ordinances and procedures relating to records, warrants, and public counter functions.
  • Office practices, procedures, and clerical techniques involved in classifying, indexing, processing, filing, retrieving, and controlling a large volume of records and reports.
  • State-mandated file purging requirements relative to police records.
  • Laws pertaining to privacy and security of criminal history records and laws governing the release of crime report information under the Public Records Act to specific public agencies and the general public;
  • Uses of automated data or word processing equipment utilized in records systems.
