Librarian - Technical Services, Metuchen Public LibraryJob Summary:Metuchen Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and forward-thinking Technical Services Librarian to plan and coordinate cataloging, catalog maintenance, materials processing, inventory, acquisitions, and library systems. The position administers and enhances the integrated library system (ILS), supports the library's digital services and technology operations, and works collaboratively with staff, vendors, and the public.Responsibilities:Plans, coordinates, and evaluates acquisitions, cataloging, catalog maintenance, and materials processing operationsCreates and maintains MARC bibliographic, holdings, item, and authority records for print, digital, periodical, and audiovisual materialsClassifies, labels, jackets, secures, and otherwise prepares materials for shelving and circulationAdministers, maintains, and enhances the ILS and online public access catalog, including bibliographic and patron databasesSupports online databases, interlibrary loan systems, digital resources, and related technology servicesServes as the primary liaison to the STELLA consortium and to ILS and other related vendorsTroubleshoots library system issues and works with staff and vendors to resolve themMaintains service statistics, develops performance measures, and submits required reports and budget requestsParticipates in collection development and maintenance activities in assigned areasProvides professional reference, readers' advisory, and technology assistance and instruction to patronsAssists in developing library policies, procedures, disaster-recovery planning, and strategic initiatives related to collectionsParticipates in professional development, professional committees (NJLA, STELLA, LLNJ), and library initiativesProvides scheduled public-service desk coverage and assists with opening and closing the libraryPerforms other related duties as assignedQualifications/Requirements:Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or a New Jersey master's program in Library Science deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State UniversityAt least two years of technical services experience in a libraryStrong knowledge of cataloging, classification, MARC standards, materials processing, integrated library systems, and current library technologiesDemonstrated ability to learn new software and digital resources and to use Google Workspace, Zoom, mobile devices, and library systemsAbility to independently perform professional librarian duties, prioritize competing responsibilities, and exercise sound judgmentExcellent customer service, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skillsAbility to establish positive, cooperative working relationships with patrons, coworkers, consortium partners, and vendorsAbility to travel to off-site meetings, conferences, and training sessionsStrong commitment to public service, lifelong learning, and equitable access to informationSchedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week; schedule may include evenings and weekendsApplications for this position will be accepted through September 4, 2026.“Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of PaySalary: $62,000 annually; full benefits package#J-18808-Ljbffr
