Associate Municipal Court Judge

Summary

Performs Municipal Judge duties as outlined in Texas State Law including but not limited to:Presides over Municipal Court for all class C Misdemeanors; holds court sessions to hear persons accused of violating city laws, ordinances, and other misdemeanor violations within the jurisdiction of the Municipal CourtDetermines innocence or culpability (when hearing cases without a jury) and levies fines or bail commensurate with the violation in such a manner to preserve equity and uniformity in the application of existing laws and ordinancesDirects jurors in trial cases on proper interpretation of lawReviews requests for continuances; grants or deniesCoordinates weekly monthly court activities with the Court Administrator, City Prosecutor, and establish/maintain working relationshipsPerforms Magistrate duties as outlined in Texas State Law including but not limited to:Issues warrants, summons, magistrate warnings, etc.Signs various paperwork such as arrest warrants, search warrants, prisoner transfer documentation, appeal bonds, affidavits, judgments, dismissals, etc.Performs legal research as neededAttends required Municipal Court training and Council meetings occasionallyMaintains and update judge's docket; enters the proceedings of each caseQualificationsQualified Voter of Anderson CountyUnited States CitizenMust pass pre-employment drug screenMust pass a criminal history checkMay be called upon to perform duties at unusual hours and on weekends and holidays.Experience practicing in Municipal Courts preferred#J-18808-Ljbffr
